Jason Patrick Sayler, CLVS
Certified Legal Video Specialst
& Notary Public (#2358516)
Jason is a cum laude graduate from San Francisco State University (SFSU) where he received his B.A. from the Broadcast Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) department with an emphasis on Instructional & Educational Media. His studies however not only encompassed production, but also critical theory and business aspects specific to the broadcast industry. While serving as a Teaching Assistant he developed and presented a full class lecture on Global Media Economics. Additionally, Jason completed a Minor in World Development Studies—a cross-disciplinary subspecialty often found in International Relations, Economics, Sociology, and Anthropology that focuses on issues and problems facing developing countries and communities. Immediately after his B.A., he earned a new Certificate in Video Production & Editing through City College of San Francisco (CCSF) concentrating on post-production, and was very pleased to work with Adobe After Effects and learn a few “tricks of the trade” while augmenting his editing skills. Later that same year, Jason returned to the University of East Anglia in the U.K. to pursue a Masters degree in Media & International Development—the very same school he spent a year as an exchange student studying TV studio production back in 2005/2006! Currently, he has become interested in the field of Court Reporting and is participating in West Valley College Court Reporting program back here in California.
As part of a series of Media in Community Service projects through SFSU, Jason was the producer, writer, and primary editor for a promotional video commissioned by the San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) to celebrate their 25th anniversary. It not only showcases both the SFCC’s environmental service work and their educational and training programs for young adults, but is also intended as fundraising tool. As post-production supervisor and editor, he worked on Trama Textiles: Weaving the Life of Guatemala telling the story and dreams of a women’s association/collective that represents over 400 Mayan traditional backstrap loom weavers spread throughout the Guatemalan highlands. The 25-minute documentary style video—shot on location over the course of a month during the summer of 2008—was assembled from over 30 hours of footage and subtitled into English from Spanish and Mayan dialects. Fifty DVD’s were produced for Trama Textiles and are intended for use to promote their cause and products—specifically to send to fair trade organizations throughout North America and Europe. More info on the project can be found at http://www.sfsu.edu/~news/2008/fall/6.html.
In January 2009, Jason completed an Creative Services internship with KNTV-NBC Bay Area, where since June 2007, he worked closely with the on-air Promotions Producers as well as performing special projects for the Commercial and Sales departments. While there, he also was a researcher and production assistant for The Tech Awards—a half-hour special broadcast that was produced for San Jose’s The Tech Museum and their presenting sponsor/partner Applied Materials. He received both a Bay Area STAR outstanding intern award and scholarship from the Bay Area Society for Television, Advertising & Radio for his work at KNTV. At the same time, Jason had also been volunteering at PBS station KTEH as part of the technical crew during pledge breaks, until that program ended with their merger with KQED.
During the summer of 2009, he worked at the community driven public access CreaTV Cable Channel 15 as a contract editor and post-producer. He’d already been a member of the station and had been helping out the producer of the Silicon Valley Technology, Art, Green & Sustainability show for a number of months.
